Mandi, Nov 10 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Sukhvinder Sukhu, declared on Monday that the financial support for individuals who suffered losses due to natural calamities will increase from Rs 70,000 to Rs 1 lakh.
He stated, “The central government has not provided any financial aid of Rs 1,500 crore.”
Despite facing resource limitations, the state government remains committed to transforming Himachal Pradesh into a self-sustaining state, he mentioned while speaking to an audience in Mandi town.
He emphasized that “Atmanirbhar Himachal” is not merely a political slogan but a true reflection of his government’s dedication.
The state has taken responsibility for 6,000 orphaned children, providing financial assistance for their higher education.
He assured that the government is striving to support families affected by disasters with the resources it has, given the extensive devastation experienced this year.
The Chief Minister remarked, “It takes a lifetime for a family to build a home; how can Rs 1.30 lakh suffice as compensation? The Union government offers only this amount for reconstructing a house. Coming from a humble background, I understand the struggles of ordinary people. Therefore, we have increased the compensation for completely destroyed homes from Rs 1.30 lakh to Rs 7 lakh and raised assistance for partially damaged houses to Rs 1 lakh.”
He criticized the BJP for politicizing relief efforts, stating it would have been more appropriate if all BJP MLAs from Mandi district had attended the gathering, despite being invited.
“The BJP leaders show a lack of sensitivity towards the hardships faced by common people, and their primary focus is on politics and spreading falsehoods,” he expressed.
He noted that even two months after the Prime Minister’s announcement, Himachal Pradesh had yet to receive any financial assistance.
“I am willing to travel to Delhi under the guidance of Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda. I have no pride; my sole aim is to assist the victims of the disaster,” he stated.
The Chief Minister reiterated his ongoing requests to the Centre to facilitate the rehabilitation of families affected by disasters on forest land.
