New Delhi, May 2 (NationPress) Following the issuance of notices by a Delhi court to Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi concerning the purported National Herald money laundering case, senior Congress leader and MP Tariq Anwar firmly rejected the allegations, asserting that there is “no fact or truth” in this matter.
In an interview with IANS, Tariq Anwar stated, “There is absolutely no truth in the National Herald case. There is no factual basis to it. Our leaders will be summoned periodically, but this is merely an attempt to harass them using agencies like the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The primary goal is to create inconvenience and apply pressure on the Congress leadership.
“They fail to recognize that our leadership carries a legacy of resilience. The Congress has never submitted to the British, and we will not submit now. We will persist in our fight for what is just and in the nation’s best interest. These summons may continue, but they will not intimidate the Congress party,” he added.
Regarding national security, Anwar addressed Union Home Minister Amit Shah's remarks that those accountable for the terrorist attack in Pahalgam would face consequences.
“Trust in Amit Shah’s assurances has dwindled. For the past two years, since the abrogation of Article 370, he has continuously claimed that terrorism in Kashmir has been eradicated. He asserted that not even a bird could enter the region unnoticed. Yet, such incidents persist. Unless effective and tangible measures are implemented, such claims are merely empty words,” Anwar remarked.
He also responded to comments from BSP chief Mayawati, who accused both the BJP and the Congress of politicizing caste enumeration. Anwar contended that both parties have historically deprived OBC communities of their rights.
“The Congress is not just discussing the issue; we are actively advocating for it. It was Congress and Rahul Gandhi who initiated the demand for a caste census. Initially, the BJP, RSS, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi vehemently opposed it, claiming it would divide the nation. They refused to recognize its significance. However, now, under pressure from Rahul Gandhi, the Congress, and the INDIA bloc, the Prime Minister has had to relent. This is a consequence of that political pressure,” he stated.
Anwar also commented on the ongoing water-sharing dispute between Punjab and Haryana.
“Both Punjab and Haryana are integral components of the Indian Union. The issue must be resolved through dialogue. The central government should play an active role in facilitating discussions between the two states. If the Centre is willing, coordination and resolution are certainly achievable,” he concluded.
