Noida, Oct 29 (NationPress) Following the Supreme Court’s significant ruling on the safeguarding and management of street dogs, the Noida Authority has devised a thorough plan to enhance their welfare and ensure public safety.
As stated by Mahendra Prasad, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) of the Noida Authority, an advanced street dog shelter has been constructed in Sector 94, currently accommodating about 1,000 stray dogs. This facility offers medical treatment, vaccination, and sterilisation services. Additionally, dogs afflicted with rabies are receiving dedicated care at the centre.
Prasad mentioned that a team of skilled veterinarians and para-veterinary staff has been assigned to the shelter to oversee the dogs’ health and overall welfare.
“Approximately 50 dogs are being sterilised daily, which aids in managing the increasing street dog population in Noida,” he added.
In partnership with two NGOs, the Noida Authority has initiated a comprehensive citywide rabies vaccination campaign, aimed at safeguarding both residents and animals. This initiative is vaccinating stray dogs throughout all sectors of the city.
The authority is also planning to establish another modern dog shelter capable of housing an additional 1,000 dogs. This facility will provide proper nutrition, hydration, medical attention, and shelter, along with a full-time veterinarian and support staff.
To further promote the humane management of street dogs, the authority is working towards setting up around 1,500 dog feeding centres across Noida. These centres will regularly supply food and water to stray dogs, which will help reduce aggression and prevent them from roaming in search of food.
For handling complaints and emergencies related to street dogs, the Noida Authority has introduced a toll-free helpline number, available 24/7. Another round-the-clock helpline is anticipated to be launched shortly.
Describing this initiative as a “step towards compassion and coexistence,” Prasad remarked, “Our objective is to ensure that both humans and animals in Noida coexist in a safe, healthy, and balanced environment.”
