Hyderabad, Nov 10 (NationPress) Renowned Telangana poet and lyricist Andesri, the creator of the state anthem “Jaya Jayahe Telangana”, passed away on Monday while receiving treatment at Gandhi Hospital. He was 64 years old.
Andesri was admitted to Gandhi Hospital late Sunday night after collapsing at his residence in Lalaguda. He breathed his last around 7:30 a.m., according to medical professionals.
He is survived by three daughters and a son.
Born on July 18, 1961, in Rebarthi village of the Maddur mandal in the current Jangaon district, Andesri was originally named Ande Yellaiah.
Despite lacking formal education, he ascended to become one of Telangana’s most esteemed poets. Through his simple yet impactful language, he aimed to foster social awareness and was honored with an honorary doctorate from Kakatiya University for his contributions.
His work “Mayamai Pothunnadamma” garnered him considerable acclaim. A pivotal figure in the Telangana movement, his writings and songs played a critical role in the struggle for statehood. His composition “Jaya Jayahe Telangana Janani Jaya Ketanam” became the anthem of this struggle and was officially adopted as the state song by the Congress government in December 2023.
