Patna, Aug 30 (NationPress) Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan, known as Lalan Singh, delivered a sharp critique of the Opposition on Saturday, labeling their ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ a “sham,” while confidently asserting that the BJP-led initiative has achieved remarkable success.
His remarks followed the participation of Samajwadi Party chief and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav in the Congress-led ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ in Bihar’s Saran district earlier that day. Congress leader K.C. Venugopal referred to Yadav as a “steadfast ally” in the battle to “defend democracy” against the BJP’s perceived “authoritarianism.”
Lalan Singh declared, “Our yatra is a triumph; theirs is a sham. They are conducting yatras while attacking PM Modi, a leader who has enhanced India’s global reputation. They have now sunk so low as to insult the Prime Minister’s late mother.”
Reflecting on history, Singh alluded to the RJD’s governance in Bihar from 1990 to 2005 amidst the ongoing PM Modi controversy.
“In that era, similar language and political tactics were prevalent. Today’s remarks indicate that Tejashwi Yadav and his allies wish to revive that outdated, regressive culture. However, the people of Bihar are vigilant and informed,” he asserted.
In response to accusations from Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Bihar Assembly, Tejashwi Yadav, who alleged that the BJP was disseminating false information, Singh stated, “It is actually Tejashwi and Rahul Gandhi who are fabricating false narratives. They parade with copies of the Constitution while undermining its spirit.”
On the contentious issue of voter citizenship verification, Singh supported the Election Commission of India’s actions.
“The Commission has merely requested individuals to validate their citizenship. Questions regarding Rahul Gandhi’s citizenship have arisen before—he should clarify that first. They are the ones committing fraud and fabricating fictitious issues,” he asserted.
Brushing aside the Opposition's statements as a sign of political desperation and attacking PM Modi and his mother, Singh remarked, “This is merely a manifestation of frustration, which is why they have resorted to abusive language.”
Commenting on the recent altercation between Congress and BJP workers in Patna, Singh noted, “Every action has a consequence. If someone insults the Prime Minister’s late mother, a reaction is only to be expected.”
He was addressing an incident that occurred during a rally organized by local Congress leader Mohammad Naushad, a candidate for the Jaale Assembly seat, as part of the ongoing 'Voter Adhikar Yatra'.
While attendees awaited the arrival of Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, a man snatched the microphone during the rally in Bithauli and shouted derogatory remarks aimed at the Prime Minister and his late mother.
The controversy escalated after a video of the incident went viral on social media, showcasing several workers chanting slogans and hurling insults despite the efforts of others to intervene. The video also depicted children and locals climbing onto the stage amidst the chaos.
