New Delhi, Aug 11 (NationPress) More than 30.98 crore unorganised workers have successfully registered on the eShram portal, which includes over 3.37 lakh individuals identifying as Platform workers (as of August 3), as reported to Parliament on Monday.

The Ministry of Labour and Employment introduced the eShram portal on August 26, 2021, aimed at establishing a detailed National Database of Unorganised Workers (NDUW), linked with Aadhaar.

According to Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, “The eShram portal is designed to register and assist unorganised workers by providing them with a Universal Account Number (UAN) based on self-declaration,” in a written response during a Lok Sabha session.

To promote registrations on eShram, social media platforms are being leveraged. The State Seva Kendras (SSKs) and services of Common Service Centres are actively involved in facilitating registrations for unorganised workers, the minister stated.

Various registration camps and awareness initiatives are conducted to implement and promote the eShram Scheme. These camps are organized periodically by the Ministry, in collaboration with the Common Service Centre (CSC), the Dattopant Thengadi National Board for Workers Education and Development (DTNBWED), and the State Labour Department.

eShram serves as a “One-Stop-Solution” that consolidates various social security schemes into a single accessible portal. This allows unorganised workers registered on eShram to easily access social security schemes and view the benefits they have received thus far.

At least 14 schemes from different Central Ministries and Departments have already been integrated with the eShram portal to provide benefits and access to social security, insurance, or skill development programs, including Pradhan Mantri Street Vendors Atmanirbhar Nidhi (PMSVANidhi), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), National Family Benefit Scheme (NFBS), Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G), and Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY).

Furthermore, schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAY-U), Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), Pradhan Mantri Kisan Maan Dhan Yojana (PM-KMY), One Nation One Ration Card (ONORC), and Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandna Yojana (PMMVY) have also been integrated into the portal.

Point of View

I believe that the establishment of the eShram portal marks a significant milestone in the recognition and support of unorganised workers in our country. This initiative showcases the government's commitment to inclusivity and social security, ensuring that millions have access to essential services and benefits. It is a step in the right direction towards improving the livelihoods of our workforce.
