New Delhi, Oct 2 (NationPress) The illustrious classical vocalist and Padma Bhushan recipient, Pandit Chhannulal Mishra, has sadly passed away at the age of 89.
The esteemed artist took his last breath at 4:15 a.m. on Thursday in Mirzapur.
Pandit Chhannulal had been battling health issues for some time. He was hospitalized at Sir Sunder Lal Hospital at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in Varanasi last month due to chest complications and a minor heart attack.
After being transferred to the ICU, medical professionals diagnosed him with a chest infection and anaemia. Just a few days prior, he had been discharged following a noticeable improvement in his condition.
His remains will be transported from Mirzapur to Varanasi on Thursday morning by 11 a.m. for the public to pay their final tributes, with the last rites scheduled to take place in Varanasi at 7 p.m.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sorrow over the loss of the iconic singer, reminiscing about his contributions to Indian culture and their personal connection.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister stated, "I am profoundly saddened by the passing of the distinguished classical singer Pandit Chhannulal Mishra ji. He devoted his life to enriching Indian art and culture. He not only brought classical music to the masses but also significantly contributed to promoting Indian traditions internationally."

He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2010 by the then-UPA administration and later received the Yash Bharti Award from Akhilesh Yadav, the former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.
