Parliament Today: Turbulent Session Expected as Opposition Moves No-Confidence Against Jagdeep Dhankhar

New Delhi, Dec 11 (NationPress) The Rajya Sabha's proceedings on Wednesday might be marked by disorder as the INDIA bloc has formally submitted a notice to propose a motion for the removal of House Chairman, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar.
The opposition bloc has accused Dhankhar of exhibiting partisan behavior while presiding over the Upper House, leading to the submission of the motion notice on Tuesday.
This initiative, led by the Congress, arises following a series of verbal conflicts between opposition parties and RS Chairman Dhankhar.
If the motion is introduced, the opposition will require a simple majority for its passage; however, they do not possess the necessary numbers in the 243-member House.
On behalf of the opposition, Congress leaders Jairam Ramesh and Naseer Hussain submitted the notice, which was endorsed by 60 opposition MPs under Article 67-B of the Constitution. The MPs represent various parties, including Congress, RJD, Trinamool Congress, CPI, CPI(M), JMM, AAP, DMK, and Samajwadi Party.
Congress members argue that such biased management of Rajya Sabha proceedings jeopardizes the democratic process, leading the INDIA bloc parties to unite in bringing this motion forward. They emphasized that this serves as a strong message advocating for parliamentary democracy.
Congress MP Randeep Singh Surjewala criticized the ruling party, alleging that it is disrupting Parliament to dodge discussions on vital issues like corruption, inflation, and unemployment. "This is a dark chapter in parliamentary history. The government is avoiding discussions and wasting Parliament's time," he stated.
Surjewala noted that this marks the first occasion in India's 75-year history where the government is purportedly hindering Parliament's operations.
The opposition, including Congress, has raised alarms over unequal treatment in the Rajya Sabha. They contend that while the ruling party is permitted to express their views amidst disruptions, the opposition is systematically denied the same opportunity. Congress MP Pramod Tiwari declared that the opposition has consistently been open to engaging in debates and discussions but accused the BJP of purposefully adjourning the House to evade addressing urgent matters like unemployment and the recent violence in UP's Sambhal.
The opposition's no-confidence motion indicates rising tensions in Parliament, with both factions blaming each other for obstructing the democratic process.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, in response to the Opposition's no-confidence motion against Chairman Dhankhar, remarked that the NDA government maintains a majority in the House. "We have profound respect for Jagdeep Dhankhar. He is an exceptionally knowledgeable individual. The notice against him, signed by 60 MPs, is something I condemn. The NDA government has complete majority support, and the majority trusts the Vice President," Rijiju asserted.
