New Delhi, May 9 (NationPress) An image that has been shared on the social media platform X, purporting to depict an explosion at the Jammu Air Force base, has been proven false by the Press Information Bureau (PIB) on Friday.
Upon investigation, PIB confirmed that the image was misappropriated and actually originates from the Kabul airport blast that occurred on August 21.
In a post on X, PIB Fact Check stated, "Explosion at Jammu Air Force Base? Let's uncover the truth! An outdated image is being disseminated with misleading claims regarding multiple explosions at the Jammu Air Force Base in India. #PIBFactCheck This image is from the Kabul Airport explosion in August 2021."
Additionally, PIB provided a link to the original report from which the image was extracted: https://al-ain.com/article/1630002029.
The Press Information Bureau has cautioned the public against falling for such misinformation. "Avoid falling prey to misinformation. Always verify before sharing!"
PIB fact-checkers also confirmed that numerous videos and images circulating online are unrelated to the current military situation.
On Friday morning, PIB's fact-checking unit refuted a widely shared video on social media that claimed to show Pakistani attacks on Hazira Port in Gujarat and a drone strike in Jalandhar.
The PIB clarified that the Hazira Port video is an unrelated clip "confirmed to show an oil tanker explosion." This footage captures an incident from July 7, 2021, which Pakistan has misleadingly portrayed as an attack on the port.
Another video claimed to depict the aftermath of a drone strike in Jalandhar. In an X post, PIB fact-check stated that this video is unrelated and actually shows a farm fire.
PIB's post read, "Drone Attack in Jalandhar. This widely circulated drone strike video from #Jalandhar is actually an unrelated clip of a farm fire. The video was timestamped 7:39 PM, while the drone attack occurred later."
Following India’s extensive cross-border operations against terror bases in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Pakistan, a surge of misinformation and false narratives is being disseminated from across the border by various influencers, media outlets, and government-endorsed social media accounts.
Since the initiation of India's military actions against terror infrastructure on May 7, PIB has debunked numerous misleading videos.
PIB urges citizens to remain vigilant and confirm the accuracy of information before sharing online. "During periods of heightened national security, misinformation can create unnecessary panic and confusion. Always consult official sources for the latest updates," advised a PIB spokesperson.
