New Delhi, Aug 15 (NationPress) Business owners and traders nationwide have expressed their support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's announcement regarding the next-generation GST reforms, deeming it a crucial move to streamline the taxation system and enhance trade.Paramjit Singh Pamma, Vice-President of the Federation of Sadar Bazar Traders Association, stated that these reforms will provide significant relief to traders currently burdened by tax rates ranging from 5% to 28%.
“This has been a longstanding request from the trading community, and we wholeheartedly embrace this announcement from Prime Minister Modi. It will greatly assist traders,” Pamma remarked.
During his Independence Day speech at the Red Fort, Prime Minister Modi indicated substantial modifications to the Goods and Services Tax system.
“This Diwali, I plan to celebrate a double Diwali for you. The citizens are about to receive a significant gift — a considerable reduction in GST on common household items,” he declared.
Labeling the initiative as “the demand of the hour,” the Prime Minister highlighted the urgent need to evaluate and rationalize GST rates to alleviate the tax burden on the average citizen.
In response to the Prime Minister's call for increased purchases of indigenous goods, Pamma noted that a reduction in GST rates will bolster domestic trade and enhance the competitiveness of local products against imports.
He also pointed out that India's vast market offers abundant opportunities for domestic sales, although additional reforms in local markets are essential.
This announcement coincides with the eight-year anniversary of GST's implementation in 2017, a pivotal reform that unified India's indirect tax system and improved the ease of conducting business, particularly for small and medium enterprises.
With the anticipated modifications, traders and industry associations are hopeful for a more straightforward, equitable, and growth-focused GST framework.
