PM Modi Expresses Sorrow Over the Passing of Dr. Manmohan Singh

New Delhi, Dec 26 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday expressed his deep sorrow over the passing of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who departed this life at the AIIMS at the age of 92.
In a message shared on X, PM Modi stated: "India mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished leaders, Dr. Manmohan Singh Ji. Rising from modest beginnings, he became a highly regarded economist, serving in numerous government roles, including as Finance Minister, significantly shaping our economic policies over the years. His contributions in Parliament were equally insightful, and as Prime Minister, he made substantial efforts to enhance the quality of life for citizens."
Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, celebrated economist and architect of India's economic reforms, passed away on Thursday at the age of 92. He had been hospitalized at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) following a decline in his health.
The AIIMS confirmed the news of Dr. Singh's passing through a statement: "With profound sadness, we announce the demise of former Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh, aged 92. He had been receiving treatment for age-related medical issues and experienced a sudden loss of consciousness at his residence on December 26. Resuscitative measures were promptly initiated at home, and he was taken to the medical emergency at AIIMS. Despite all efforts, he could not be revived and was pronounced dead at 9:51 p.m."
Dr. Singh was admitted for treatment at the hospital on Thursday night due to critical illness.
Serving as Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, Dr. Singh is recognized for his transformative influence in guiding India's economy through a significant liberalization phase.
His time in office is often credited with initiating major economic reforms in 1991 when he served as Finance Minister, which modernized India's economy and integrated it into the global marketplace.
A man of humility and intellect, Dr. Singh was a respected figure both domestically and internationally. Under his leadership, India experienced consistent economic growth, poverty reduction, and enhanced global standing.
His administration was also known for enacting crucial legislation in sectors such as education, food security, and information.
The nation is in mourning following Dr. Singh's passing, with leaders from all political factions and around the world paying tribute to his enduring legacy. His contributions to economics and public service will be cherished for generations to come.
He is survived by his wife, Gursharan Kaur, and their three daughters. Funeral arrangements are anticipated to be revealed soon, with national leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expected to join in honoring his memory. Dr. Singh's death signifies the closing of a significant chapter in Indian politics. His leadership and legacy will continue to motivate future generations.
Earlier this year, in April, Manmohan Singh retired from the Rajya Sabha, with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge lauding his extensive parliamentary career.
