PM Modi Joins Maha Kumbhabhishekam of Jakarta Murugan Temple Remotely

New Delhi, Feb 2 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday took part virtually in the Maha Kumbhabhishekam ceremony of Shri Sanathana Dharma Aalayam, known as the Jakarta Murugan Temple, which is Indonesia's inaugural temple dedicated to Lord Murugan.

PM Modi described the temple as a symbol of spirituality, culture, and unity, expressing his deep emotional connection to the event despite the physical distance.

"It is an honor to participate in this historic Maha Kumbhabhishekam ceremony at the Murugan Temple in Jakarta. The presence of my brother, President Prabowo, makes it even more significant. Although I am hundreds of kilometers away, my heart is close to this moment," he stated.

Speaking to those gathered virtually, PM Modi emphasized the historical and cultural links between India and Indonesia.

"Recently, President Prabowo Subianto brought the love of 140 crore Indians to Indonesia, and I trust that through him, you can feel the warm wishes from every Indian. I congratulate all devotees across India, Indonesia, and the world on this sacred occasion," he remarked.

Highlighting the ancient connections between the two nations, he stated, "The relationship between India and Indonesia extends beyond geopolitical factors. It is rooted in thousands of years of shared culture, history, faith, devotion, and spirituality. Our bond is intertwined with Lord Murugan, Lord Sri Ram, and Lord Buddha."

He added, "When an Indian visits Indonesia and prays at the Prambanan Temple, the experience is as spiritual as visiting Kashi or Kedarnath. Similarly, when Indians engage with the Kakawin and Serat Ramayan, they feel a connection akin to reading Valmiki's Ramayan."

Reflecting on the Bali Yatra festival's significance, PM Modi noted how Indonesia's cultural identity remains closely linked to India.

"When people travel with Garuda Indonesia (Indonesian airlines), they experience our common heritage. These bonds remind us of our rich historical connections," he pointed out.

He celebrated the temple's inauguration as a significant achievement, stating, "Today, a new golden chapter is being inscribed in our centuries-old heritage. This temple serves not only as a spiritual hub but also as a testament to our shared cultural values. I've learned that in addition to Lord Murugan, idols of various other deities have been installed here, showcasing the richness and diversity of our traditions."

Discussing the cultural philosophy shared by both nations, he highlighted, "Indonesia embraces the principle of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, meaning 'Unity in Diversity.' India shares this belief. This shared ethos enables diverse communities to coexist harmoniously in both countries. This sacred day strengthens the message of unity in diversity."

PM Modi also stressed the increasing people-to-people connections between the two nations.

"The ties between India and Indonesia are becoming stronger due to our cultural initiatives. We are committed to preserving the Prambanan and Borobudur Buddhist Temples together. Such initiatives should be further encouraged, and I am confident our bilateral relations will continue to grow in the future," he stated.

The foundation stone of the Jakarta Murugan Temple was laid on February 14, 2020, during a puja conducted by esteemed priests from India and Malaysia. This gathering symbolized the unity and solidarity of Indonesia's diverse communities.

The temple embodies a remarkable fusion of Indian, Javanese, and Balinese traditions while upholding the values of Pancasila.

More than just a spiritual haven, it acts as a center for cultural exchange and tourism, further enhancing Indonesia's ties with India.

The Maha Kumbhabhishekam ceremony is taking place in Indonesia, supported by 72 Gurukals from India.
