Individuals nationwide are observing Maha Shivratri with immense devotion and enthusiasm, visiting temples dedicated to Lord Shiva and offering prayers.

Maha Shivratri is widely regarded as the day of the divine union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. However, scholars suggest that ancient texts, including the Shiva Purana, do not reference this event.

The Shiva Purana notes that the Shivling first appeared on the fourteenth day of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Falgun, known as Chaturdashi Tithi. On this day, Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma worshipped the Shivling, marking it as a revered occasion called Shivratri.
