Tianjin, Sep 1 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday connected India’s internal principles to its international responsibilities, asserting that ‘reform, perform, and transform' are the guiding principles India is committed to, urging other nations to join the ongoing growth wave that the country is experiencing across various sectors.
During his opening remarks at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit, the Prime Minister stated that this philosophy shapes both governance in India and the country’s interactions with global platforms like the SCO.
“In this era, India is on the lookout for fresh opportunities. We welcome you to be part of India’s developmental journey,” PM Modi expressed, noting that both India and China pursue strategic autonomy and their relationship should not be viewed through the lens of a third nation.
Highlighting that the SCO embodies Security, Connectivity, and Opportunity, PM Modi emphasized that India is convinced that robust connectivity fosters not just trade but also trust and development.
“This is why we are focusing on projects like Chabahar port and the International North-South Economic Corridor, which will boost connectivity to Afghanistan and Central Asia,” he informed the attendees.
He further remarked that “Connectivity must always respect sovereignty and territorial integrity — this is a fundamental principle of the SCO Charter. Connectivity that disregards sovereignty loses trust and significance,” the Prime Minister stressed.
“It is heartening to note that the SCO is evolving with the changing times. Four new centers are being established to address issues like organized crime, drug trafficking, and cybersecurity. We appreciate this reform-oriented approach,” PM Modi added.
The Prime Minister also encouraged SCO member nations to adopt a decisive stance against terrorism and work together to eliminate it.
The SCO Summit, hosted by China this year, officially commenced on Sunday. The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, established by China in 2001, is a regional political, economic, and security alliance that includes India, China, Russia, and five other member states.
This marks PM Modi’s first visit to China in seven years; his presence on Chinese soil carries significant diplomatic weight considering the recent cooling of India-China relations following the 2020 Galwan Valley clashes.
