Ranchi, Dec 2 (NationPress) The atmosphere in the Sithio Basti locality under the Dhurwa police station turned tense on Tuesday as community members voiced their outrage over the murder of a 22-year-old youth, Arshad Ansari.
Accusing law enforcement of negligence, the bereaved family, along with hundreds of residents, organized a protest outside the Dhurwa police station that lasted for several hours, demanding the swift apprehension of the perpetrators.
Demonstrators claimed that despite numerous reports regarding escalating criminal activities and the increasing influence of land mafia in Sithio Basti, the police did not take adequate preventive measures.
“There is a lack of regular patrols in this area. We have consistently alerted the police, but no action was taken,” stated a concerned resident.
Arshad was fatally shot late Monday night when two assailants on a motorcycle opened fire at him from close range, striking him in the head. Family members and neighbors rushed him to a nearby hospital, but he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Authorities arrived at the scene shortly after the incident began their investigation. The officer in charge at Dhurwa police station reported that one suspect, identified as Tausif, was apprehended within 12 hours post-murder, and efforts are ongoing to capture the other suspects.
Mohammad Jilani, the victim’s sibling, mentioned that Ibrar and Sanjay Kohra are involved in land dealings. He speculated that the assailants might have aimed at someone else, resulting in Arshad being shot by mistake.
Jilani asserted that Arshad was a painter with no connections to any land disputes. He accused local residents Ibrar, Sanjay Kohra, and Tausif of conspiring to murder his brother.
The family is insisting on the immediate arrest of all involved. The police have assured a comprehensive investigation is in progress and that all culprits will be caught soon.
In response to the ongoing tension in the area, significant police presence has been established following the incident.
