Punjab BJP rejects PPSC's PCS Mains clarification, demands CBI probe
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Punjab Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Kewal Singh Dhillon on Friday, 6 November 2026 rejected the Punjab Public Service Commission's (PPSC) clarification on the controversial PCS (Mains) examination results, calling it a shameless 'self-clean chit' crafted to shield influential politicians. Dhillon alleged that Punjab's recruitment machinery has been systematically compromised, turning competitive examinations into rackets where merit is sacrificed.
BJP Rejects PPSC's Defence
The PPSC Chairman had earlier dismissed allegations of irregularities in the PCS (Mains) results as 'statistical misinterpretations.' Dhillon categorically rejected this, arguing that an institution facing serious charges cannot credibly adjudicate its own conduct.
'How can the accused become the judge? The PPSC's internal justification is nothing but an orchestrated cover-up,' Dhillon said.
He further alleged that 'no amount of mathematical jugglery can convince the youth of Punjab that 10 to 11 candidates clearing from a single examination hall and clusters of consecutive roll numbers qualifying in a subjective, descriptive exam like PCS (Mains) is mere coincidence.'
Call for Independent Forensic Audit
Dhillon questioned why the commission was unwilling to subject itself to external scrutiny if its processes were above board. 'Why is the commission afraid of an independent forensic audit if everything was above board?' he asked.
Critics argue that without a neutral, court-supervised investigation, any internal review by the PPSC lacks credibility. This comes amid a broader erosion of public trust in state recruitment institutions, particularly among young job aspirants.
Pattern of Recruitment Scandals Under AAP
Dhillon linked the PCS controversy to a prior recruitment scam involving the Pharmacy Officer (Pharmacist) examination, where an organised interstate cheating racket was busted. That case involved wireless spy devices, hidden pen cameras, and real-time answer dictation, leading to dozens of arrests and subsequent intervention by the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
'First, it was the Pharmacist recruitment exam, where government jobs were virtually put on sale with high-tech cheating devices and paper-leak mafias running rampant. Now, Punjab's premier civil services examination has been tainted with identical suspicion,' Dhillon alleged.
He characterised the two scandals as part of a 'recurring pattern of corruption' under the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, saying the Mann government's claims of zero-tolerance and merit-based recruitment 'lie exposed as a monumental fraud.'
BJP's Demands
The state BJP chief demanded that both the PCS (Mains) irregularities and the pharmacist recruitment scam be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) under the direct supervision of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. He argued that only an independent, court-monitored probe could restore confidence among the lakhs of educated youth who have been affected.
With assembly scrutiny mounting and the opposition intensifying pressure, the PPSC and the state government face growing calls to allow external oversight — the outcome of which could have significant implications for recruitment integrity across Punjab.
