Chandigarh, Jan 18 (NationPress) Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann announced on Sunday that Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Talbir Singh Gill will be the party's nominee for the Majitha constituency in the upcoming 2027 Assembly elections.
He expressed confidence that the people of Punjab will resist any attempts to revert to beadbi (sacrilege) and goondagardi, emphasizing that development, dignity, and respect for Akal Takht Sahib remain pivotal.
While addressing a public gathering after laying the foundation for 23 new rural link roads in Majitha, CM Mann stated, “This region previously lived in constant fear due to a self-proclaimed ‘jarnail’ who weaponized false accusations against the innocent.
His deep-rooted connections with the Congress and Akali governments facilitated a climate of terror, silencing the voices of many.” He noted that this fear has dissipated, as the people's will prevails and such politics have been decisively rejected.
The Chief Minister highlighted that the citizens have forged a new path by rejecting the intimidation tactics of the Majithia and Badal families. He remarked, “Majitha was once under the sway of individuals who hosted General Dyer for dinner on the very day of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre in 1919. Such treachery cannot be forgotten. The people of Punjab will not forgive those whose hands are stained with innocent blood.”
CM Mann cautioned that reinstating the Akali Dal would lead Punjab into a dark past. “It would signify a return to beadbi of Guru Granth Sahib, violence against innocent protestors, and oppression of the common man,” he stated.
He noted that the misdeeds of the Akalis and the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) prompted the state government to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the disappearance of 328 saroops of Guru Granth Sahib.
“Our sole aim is to locate the missing saroops. We do not intend to meddle in religious matters,” he clarified. CM Mann criticized SGPC President Harjinder Singh Mann for prioritizing political rallies over his main duties.
“Instead of identifying as a soldier of Guru Gobind Singh, he takes pride in being a soldier of Sukhbir Badal. What can we expect from someone who serves a person responsible for Punjab's turmoil?” he questioned.
The Chief Minister assured that special focus is being given to the welfare of border residents, whom he regarded as true patriots. “In a significant relief for farmers in the border region, the Central government has preliminarily approved moving the border fence closer to the International Border,” he announced, adding that this would facilitate the cultivation of thousands of acres currently beyond the fencing.
CM Mann mentioned he raised this issue with the Union Home Minister, highlighting the daily struggles faced by farmers who must cross the fence under BSF escort to access their fields along the 532-km India-Pakistan border.
