Puri, Aug 13 (NationPress) In a significant advancement for inter-state rail connectivity, the extension of the Puri-Lalgarh-Puri Weekly Express to Sri Ganganagar was inaugurated on Wednesday, creating a vital link between the Bay of Bengal and the Thar Desert.
BJP MP Sambit Patra officially launched the first journey of this extended service from Puri Railway Station.
In an interview with IANS, he expressed his appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for establishing this new train connection between Puri in Odisha and Sri Ganganagar in Rajasthan.
"This is a historic achievement that creates a direct link between Puri in Odisha and Sri Ganganagar in Rajasthan. Previously, the train only reached Lalgarh, but now it has been extended to Sri Ganganagar," Patra stated.
He added, "This initiative significantly supports the concept of 'Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat'. By connecting the Bay of Bengal with the Thar Desert, where Sri Ganganagar is situated, we are initiating a truly commendable project. This extension will notably enhance tourism, particularly religious tourism, allowing more devotees to visit Lord Jagannath."
Patra also emphasized the remarkable transformation of Odisha's railway sector, contrasting it with the previous UPA government's (2004-2014) budget allocation of around Rs 892 crore for railway development. In comparison, the Modi government has allocated approximately Rs 10,000 crore for 2024-25, highlighting a significant increase.
He mentioned the heightened patriotic sentiment in the nation following 'Operation Sindoor', asserting that initiatives like 'Har Ghar Tiranga' and 'Tiranga Yatra' exemplify the people's commitment to the country.
The presence of the Tricolour flags behind the speakers symbolizes this deep devotion to Bharat Mata.
BJD MP Subhashish Khuntia, who attended the event, welcomed this advancement.
"The extension of the Puri-Lalgarh Express to Sri Ganganagar signifies another milestone in the progress of our nation, state, and Puri district. This connection links Puri, a major tourist and pilgrimage hub, with Sri Ganganagar and the desert region, improving rail connectivity and promoting tourism and pilgrimage," he conveyed to IANS.
"This initiative aligns with the vision of achieving railway connectivity from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, focusing on enhancing rail and tourism development and better facilities for passengers," Khuntia added.
Train schedules between Puri and Lalgarh will remain unchanged in both directions, and the extended route is now included in the timetable.
This service will facilitate direct train access between eastern and northwestern India, particularly benefiting pilgrims and tourists.
