Indian Railways opens 3,548 NTPC Graduate vacancies; apply by 6 November
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Indian Railways has notified 3,548 graduate-level vacancies under the Non-Technical Popular Categories (NTPC–Graduate) scheme, opening a fresh recruitment window for young degree-holders seeking careers in railway operations and administration. The Centralised Employment Notification (CEN No. 06/2026) was issued by the Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) on Sunday, 11 October 2026, with the online application window already live.
Four Posts on Offer
The notification covers four categories of posts across commercial services, train operations, accounts, and administration. The breakdown is as follows: Goods Train Manager accounts for the lion's share with 2,750 vacancies, followed by Senior Clerk Cum Typist with 371, Junior Accounts Assistant Cum Typist with 300, and Chief Commercial Cum Ticket Supervisor with 127 posts.
Together, these roles support the day-to-day functioning of freight movement, passenger ticketing, accounts management, and general administration across the railway network — making the intake strategically significant for one of the world's largest employers.
Pay Structure Under the 7th Pay Commission
All posts carry salaries governed by the Seventh Central Pay Commission. Chief Commercial Cum Ticket Supervisor draws an initial basic pay of ₹35,400 per month at Pay Level 6, while the remaining three categories — Goods Train Manager, Senior Clerk Cum Typist, and Junior Accounts Assistant Cum Typist — each carry an initial basic pay of ₹29,200 per month at Pay Level 5. Additional allowances and service conditions are governed by applicable central government rules.
Eligibility and Age Limit
Applicants must hold a degree from a recognised university or its equivalent, and must satisfy post-specific eligibility conditions as detailed in the official notification. The prescribed age limit is 18 to 33 years, reckoned as on 1 January 2027. Age relaxations are available to candidates belonging to reserved categories under existing government rules. Reservation benefits, scribe assistance, and compensatory time for persons with disabilities are also provided in accordance with prescribed provisions.
Application Dates and Selection Process
The online application process opened on 8 October 2026. Candidates can submit their applications until 11:59 pm on 6 November 2026. The deadline for payment of the examination fee is 8 November, while the application modification window runs from 9 to 18 November 2026.
Selection will proceed through a first-stage Computer-Based Test (CBT), a second-stage CBT, followed by document verification and a medical examination as applicable. Notably, the Computer-Based Typing Skill Test (CBTST) has been dispensed with for the posts of Junior Accounts Assistant Cum Typist and Senior Clerk Cum Typist under this notification. However, candidates are expected to possess basic computer and typing proficiency, which will be assessed after joining, according to the official statement.
Candidates can access the full notification, vacancy distribution, and eligibility details on the official RRB website at rrb.indianrailways.gov.in. With a closing date of 6 November, eligible graduates have less than four weeks to complete their applications.
