New Delhi, June 17 (NationPress) After enduring days of unyielding heat and high humidity, residents of Delhi-NCR finally experienced welcome relief thanks to an unexpected downpour on Tuesday. The national capital and surrounding regions were treated to showers that ranged from light to heavy, accompanied by brisk winds, resulting in a significant drop in temperatures throughout the area.
The afternoon rainfall commenced with strong winds sweeping across various locales, including AIIMS, Qutub Institutional Area, and multiple sections of South and Central Delhi. As the rain intensified, temperatures fell sharply, creating a refreshingly cool atmosphere. The previously cloudless skies finally gave way to rain, much to the joy of Delhiites who had been suffering through the oppressive heat for days.
This respite wasn't confined to Delhi alone; neighboring areas within the National Capital Region (NCR), such as Noida and Ghaziabad, also enjoyed significant rainfall. Particularly in Noida and Ghaziabad, heavy rain followed the strong winds, providing immediate relief from the rising humidity and sweltering temperatures. The roads quickly became damp, and the familiar dust of summer gave way to the invigorating scent of monsoon rain.
In Ghaziabad, a sudden gust of wind preceded heavy rainfall, offering instant comfort to the locals.
Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has released a new advisory predicting hailstorms and thunderstorms, along with moderate to heavy rain and lightning, with wind speeds reaching 50–70 km/h. The alert covers various areas in Delhi, including Jafarpur, Narela, Dwarka, IGI Airport, Tughlakabad, and many regions of the NCR like Noida, Greater Noida, Faridabad, and Gurugram.
Isolated regions in Haryana (Jhajjar, Farukhnagar), Uttar Pradesh (Sikandrabad, Debai, Sahaswan), and Rajasthan (Laxmangarh, Rajgarh, Nadbai) are also expected to experience similar weather patterns over the next two hours.
The IMD has also predicted that temperatures this week will range from 33 degrees Celsius to 36 degrees Celsius during the day, while nighttime temperatures will range from 25 degrees Celsius to 29 degrees Celsius.
The IMD bulletin further stated that light to moderate rainfall, coupled with thunderstorms and gusty winds of 40–60 km/h, is expected to persist throughout the evening, providing additional relief to the region.
