New Delhi, Nov 10 (NationPress) Defence Minister Rajnath Singh presided over a review meeting concerning Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) on Monday, where he expressed his admiration for the performance of these firms’ platforms in Operation Sindoor.

Speaking at the newly opened DPSU Bhawan, located in the World Trade Centre, Naoroji Nagar, Rajnath Singh acknowledged the significant role of DPSUs in fortifying the defence manufacturing ecosystem and promoting the vision of a self-sufficient India.

“All our 16 DPSUs constitute robust pillars of the nation’s self-reliance. Their stellar performance in operations such as Operation Sindoor is a testament to the reliability and capabilities of our indigenous platforms,” he remarked.

The Defence Minister particularly praised HSL, AVNL, IOL, and MIL for attaining Miniratna status, which he described as a sign of their increasing efficiency, autonomy, and contributions to the defence sector.

He pointed out that the reformation of the Ordnance Factory Board into seven distinct DPSUs in 2021 has brought about enhanced functional independence, innovation, and competitiveness.

Furthermore, Rajnath Singh noted that the newly awarded Miniratna status for these four DPSUs would enable them to engage in capacity expansion, modernization, and explore new partnerships, including joint ventures and mergers with public and private sector entities.

He emphasized the remarkable achievements within the sector, highlighting that in the fiscal year 2024-25, India’s defence production reached Rs 1.51 lakh crore, with DPSUs accounting for 71.6 percent of the total production.

Defence exports soared to Rs 6,695 crore, showcasing global confidence in India’s indigenous systems. “This clearly indicates that ‘Made in India’ defence products are earning respect globally,” he stated.

Stressing the importance of maintaining this momentum, Rajnath Singh urged all DPSUs to concentrate on swift indigenisation of critical technologies, comprehensive R&D, enhancing product quality, ensuring timely deliveries, and adopting a strategic approach to boost exports.

He instructed DPSUs to establish clear indigenisation and R&D roadmaps with measurable milestones to be presented at the forthcoming review meeting. “On behalf of the Government, I assure you that any special intervention or assistance needed will be provided promptly,” he affirmed.

During the event, three significant MoUs were signed among DPSUs, demonstrating the spirit of collaboration and self-reliance. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) entered into MoUs with Yantra India Limited (YIL) to assist in its modernization efforts and establish a 10,000-ton Forging Press facility, a crucial step towards reducing import dependence for aluminium alloys in the defence and aerospace sectors.

HAL has pledged an interest-free advance of Rs 435 crore to YIL, whereas BDL will ensure a consistent workload of up to 3,000 metric tonnes over a decade.

The third MoU was focused on the establishment of a Metal Bank at MIDHANI to guarantee the uninterrupted availability of essential raw materials for defence projects of national significance.
