Patna, Nov 26 (NationPress) A significant political uproar has erupted in Bihar after former Chief Minister Rabri Devi and her son, Tej Pratap Yadav, the JJD chief, received orders to vacate their official residences. The NDA-led government claims that this decision adheres strictly to regulations, while the opposition vehemently condemns the action.
The administration led by Nitish Kumar has requested Rabri Devi to leave her long-held residence at 10 Circular Road, where she has resided for almost twenty years.
She has been assigned a new residence at House No. 39 on Harding Road. Similarly, Tej Pratap Yadav has been ordered to vacate his residence at 26 M Strand Road, which has now been allocated to SC/ST Welfare Minister Lakhendra Kumar Roshan.
Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha stated to the media, "The department in charge is executing this task. Changes are made whenever a new government assumes power, and this is occurring in accordance with established protocols."
Minister Nitin Nabin characterized the relocation as a standard "government procedure", affirming, "MLAs are provided living quarters based on their classification. There is no issue here that warrants my response."
The state BJP chief and minister, Dilip Jaiswal, emphasized that the government is adhering to established guidelines.
"When officials retire, they promptly vacate their government accommodations. Why then are politicians so reluctant to leave? They should accept the arrangements made by the government for them," he told IANS.
Rabri Devi, recognized as Bihar's first woman Chief Minister, held office from 1997 to 2005 after Lalu Prasad Yadav resigned due to an arrest warrant stemming from the fodder scam. She has been serving as the Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council since 2018. Tej Pratap Yadav, who lost the Mahua Assembly seat, currently does not hold any official title.
JD(U) National Spokesperson Rajeev Ranjan asserted that the reallocation follows the established norms.
"This is a mandated procedure. The Central Government allocates residences based on positions periodically. Rabri Devi has been approved for a new residence according to her capacity. Since Tej Pratap is not a member of any House, he must vacate his accommodation," he informed IANS.
However, Congress leader Shakeel Ahmad accused the Nitish Kumar government of targeting opposition leaders.
"Does the current administration have any respect for the dignity of all opposition figures? When driven by vengeance, anything is possible. In this country, Rahul Gandhi's bungalow was vacated, and his membership was revoked, but with public support, everything was restored. Can we see anything like this under the BJP's governance?" Ahmad questioned.
