New Delhi, Feb 13 (NationPress) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched a continued indirect assault on Congress representative Gaurav Gogoi, alleging that he and his spouse have connections with Pakistan's ISI.

In a detailed post on X, CM Sarma, while refraining from directly naming the Lok Sabha member from Assam, recounted events to support his assertions.

He stated, "In 2015, the Pakistani High Commissioner to India, Mr. Abdul Basit, extended an invitation to a first-term Member of Parliament (MP) and his initiative, Policy for Youth, to engage in discussions regarding India-Pakistan relations at the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi. It is noteworthy that this MP was not part of the Parliamentary Committee on External Affairs at that time, raising suspicions about the intent behind his involvement."

CM Sarma pointed out that this meeting took place despite India's formal objections against the Pakistani High Commission’s meddling in domestic affairs, particularly its connections with the Hurriyat Conference. "Disregarding these apprehensions, the MP escorted 50 to 60 young Indians to meet Pakistani officials," he affirmed.

According to the Assam CM, shortly following this gathering, the leader's startup published an article in The Hindu criticizing the Border Security Force’s management of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. A detailed review of his parliamentary inquiries indicated an increasing focus on sensitive defense issues, such as questions regarding Coast Guard radar installations, India’s arms manufacturing, aeronautical defense, trade transit routes with Iran, Kashmiri students, and alleged attacks on churches—illustrating a distinct shift in his areas of concern.

CM Sarma mentioned that all these occurrences transpired shortly after his marriage to a British national. "Interestingly, these developments arose immediately following his marriage to a British citizen, whose professional history raises additional questions. Prior to their union, she was employed by an American senator known for close affiliations with the Pakistani establishment and subsequently worked in Pakistan for an organization widely regarded as a front for the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). The timing of these events adds a layer of complexity to the MP’s changing political stance and activities," CM Sarma's post claims.

On Wednesday, CM Sarma first broached the subject in his post. "Serious inquiries need to be made regarding allegations of ISI connections, leading young individuals to the Pakistan Embassy for indoctrination and radicalization, alongside the refusal to acquire Indian citizenship over the past 12 years. Furthermore, involvement in a conversion cartel and receiving funds from external sources, including George Soros, to undermine national security are serious issues that cannot be overlooked," the CM expressed in his post.

CM Sarma has called for accountability on this matter. "At some point, accountability will be essential. Simply deflecting responsibility or attempting to shift the focus onto others will not provide an easy escape route. The nation deserves transparency and truth," he stated.

He also asserted that sooner or later, it will be revealed how foreign entities, led by George Soros’ ecosystem, influenced a significant decision of Assam Congress in 2014. "Hopefully, the truth will emerge in due course," he remarked.

The Chief Minister on Wednesday intensified his critique of Congress MP, raising concerns regarding his wife’s foreign nationality and her previous employment in Pakistan.

While indirectly referencing Elizabeth Gogoi, Gaurav's wife—who is originally from the UK and works in climate policy—CM Sarma posted on X on Wednesday morning that Indian Foreign Service officers need to obtain authorization from the Union government to marry foreigners and must ensure their spouses acquire Indian citizenship. "During my discussions with an IFS officer in Singapore, I learned that officers in the Indian Foreign Service cannot wed a foreign national without prior consent from the Government of India. Moreover, even when consent is granted, it comes with the stipulation that the spouse must attain Indian citizenship within six months. Curiously, this rule does not apply to our lawmakers. However, permitting a lawmaker's foreign spouse to maintain foreign citizenship for 12 years is excessively lengthy. Loyalty to the nation must always take precedence over all other considerations," he emphasized.
