Kohima, Aug 1 (NationPress) Senior IAS officer Sentiyanger Imchen officially took over as the new Chief Secretary of Nagaland at the civil secretariat on Friday, as reported by officials.
Imchen, a 1991-batch IAS officer from the Nagaland cadre, succeeded J Alam, who retired on July 31 from his post.
A notification from the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms highlighted that prior to this role, Imchen served as the Additional Chief Secretary and Finance Commissioner for the state.
Rajya Sabha member S. Phangnon Konyak extended her congratulations to Imchen on his new appointment, expressing confidence that his extensive experience and administrative skills will lead the state towards enhanced progress and effective governance.
Konyak remarked on social media: "Heartiest congratulations to Shri Sentiyanger Imchen, IAS, on assuming charge as the Chief Secretary of Nagaland. Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio also expressed gratitude towards J. Alam for his commendable leadership and dedication to the people of Nagaland, particularly during challenging times.
During a farewell event, the Chief Minister praised Alam as a calm and wise individual who navigated various challenges with effective solutions.
CM Rio acknowledged the social unrest that has affected the state, including issues like headhunting, insurgency, and the complexities stemming from the Naga Political issue and the AFSPA.
He noted that such turbulent circumstances make it difficult for bureaucratic officers to deliver justice and make decisions. However, Alam's leadership allowed him to successfully manage these challenges throughout his tenure.
