Sonipat, Feb 16 (NationPress) The Shallu Jindal Performing Arts Academy has been officially opened at O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU), marking a significant addition to the academic and cultural landscape aimed at promoting education in performing arts, artistic exploration, and community cultural interaction within a multidisciplinary academic framework.

Designed specifically for performance, education, and cultural dialogue, this Academy incorporates a proscenium stage, state-of-the-art acoustic features, tiered seating, and integrated gallery spaces. It will facilitate a variety of events, including performances, exhibitions, workshops, and interdisciplinary projects, benefiting students, faculty, visiting artists, and the broader community, while emphasizing the importance of the arts in higher education.

The inauguration ceremony featured distinguished Kuchipudi masters and Padma Bhushan recipients Dr. Raja Reddy, Dr. Radha Reddy, and Dr. Kaushalya Reddy, together with Shallu Jindal, Chairperson of the Jindal Foundation, and Naveen Jindal, Chancellor of JGU.

Dr. Raja Reddy underscored the necessity of institutional platforms for classical arts, asserting that dedicated academic environments are crucial for safeguarding India's artistic heritage while equipping future artists for disciplined and impactful creative endeavors.

Shallu Jindal expressed that the Academy embodies the belief that artistic endeavors foster more reflective, compassionate, and unified communities, wishing that the space would motivate students to engage profoundly with their disciplines, creativity, and service.

Naveen Jindal, the Founding Chancellor of O.P. Jindal Global University, reiterated the significance of the arts in comprehensive education. He stated that universities should cultivate not just intellectual prowess but also cultural and artistic awareness, affirming that the Academy enhances JGU’s dedication to nation-building through education, culture, and creativity.

Professor (Dr) C. Raj Kumar, the Founding Vice Chancellor of O.P. Jindal Global University, explained that the Academy is named as a tribute to Shallu Jindal’s enduring contributions to performing arts, cultural philanthropy, and institution development. Through her initiatives with the Jindal Foundation, she has championed education, health, rural upliftment, and the promotion of traditional arts throughout India. This initiative is set to pave the way for JGU's upcoming School of Performing Arts, offering programs in music, dance, theatre, and other performing arts courses with a strong focus on experiential learning.

The Shallu Jindal Performing Arts Academy is a key component of JGU’s expansive cultural and academic framework, complementing existing educational facilities and the Jindal International Convention Centre (JICC), which hosts global academic conferences, cultural events, and public interactions. Together, these facilities enhance the University’s vision of merging academic inquiry with cultural expression.

Designed by Stephane Paumier, the architectural design gives the building its unique identity. The Academy spans multiple floors of this landmark structure, dedicated to fostering artistic excellence and cultural expression. It boasts a 1,000-seat cutting-edge auditorium and twenty-four galleries for a diverse range of performances, exhibitions, and other creative ventures.

With the establishment of the Shallu Jindal Performing Arts Academy, O.P. Jindal Global University reaffirms its commitment to integrating arts and culture into higher education, establishing the University as a hub where creative practice, scholarship, and public engagement flourish together.

Professor Dabiru Sridhar Patnaik, Registrar of JGU, concluded the significant event by stating, “This inauguration marks a historic milestone and the inception of a cultural legacy for the entire JGU community, as the arts enhance the human spirit and elevate humanity.”
