Mysuru Dasara 2026: CM Shivakumar invites all to Karnataka's grand state festival
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Tuesday, 20 October extended a warm public invitation to Kannadigas and tourists alike to attend the Mysuru Dasara celebrations, calling the festival a living symbol of Karnataka's cultural heritage, grandeur, and state pride. The invite came through both a video message and a post on social media platform X.
Festival Schedule and Key Highlights
The Karnataka government is hosting Mysuru Dasara from Sunday, 11 October to Wednesday, 22 October — an 11-day celebration centred on Mysuru. Ayudha Puja rituals have already commenced at Mysuru Palace, with members of the royal family actively participating in the ceremonies.
The marquee event, the Jamboo Savari — the grand elephant procession — along with the floral tribute to the idol of Goddess Chamundeshwari, is scheduled between 4.10 pm and 4.35 pm, followed by the procession from Amba Vilas Palace to Bannimantap Grounds. Elephant Prashanth will carry the iconic 750 kg solid gold howdah this year, stepping into the role previously held by veteran tusker Abhimanyu, who has since retired.
Illuminations and Possible Extension
The royal palace and central areas of Mysuru are illuminated every night throughout the festival. Chief Minister Shivakumar announced that the government would consider extending the illumination for an additional 11 days beyond the conclusion of the Dasara festivities, a decision expected to be taken after the festival concludes.
What the Chief Minister Said
In a one-minute video message, CM Shivakumar framed the festival as far more than a regional event. 'Mysuru Dasara is not just a festival. It is the pride of Karnataka and a reflection of our heritage. It is a celebration of our culture and the grandeur of our land. Here, one can experience art, music and our rich cultural traditions,' he said.
In a separate post on X, Shivakumar described the event as world-renowned: 'The countdown has begun for the world-renowned Mysuru Dasara celebrations, a symbol of the state's art, culture, tradition and splendour. With the blessings of Mother Chamundeshwari, the city of Mysuru has adorned itself, extending its hand in invitation to all the people of the state,' he wrote.
Distinguished Guests and National Participation
Several prominent dignitaries from across the world are expected to attend. India's armed forces — the Army, Air Force, and Navy — will also form part of the festivities. Notably, Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan and Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy have confirmed their attendance, lending the event an inter-state political significance alongside its cultural stature.
With the Jamboo Savari set for 21 October, all eyes are now on Mysuru as the city prepares for the centrepiece of one of India's most celebrated state festivals.
