Is the High Command's Decision Definitive? Siddaramaiah Responds amid Karnataka Leadership Drama
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, Feb 10 (NationPress) Amidst persistent rumors regarding leadership conflicts within the ruling Congress party in Karnataka, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah stated on Tuesday that any resolutions made by the party's high command would be considered final.
His comments follow a recent declaration by Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, indicating that both leaders were in agreement about the discussions that took place in front of the party hierarchy.
“I won't comment on Shivakumar's remarks. Whatever the high command decides is final. Please refrain from asking questions as you please. If he has made a statement, you should inquire with him. I am not aware. I am dedicated to whatever the high command states,” the Chief Minister remarked.
When questioned about a potential trip to Delhi, Siddaramaiah replied, “Why should I go to Delhi without an invitation? My duties here involve budget preparations. If they invite me, then I will go.”
Addressing queries regarding Shivakumar's absence at the budget preparation meeting, Siddaramaiah mentioned that the deputy chief minister had requested permission and communicated through a letter that he was to attend a meeting in Delhi concerning the Assam Assembly election.
When asked about the Supreme Court's statement indicating it would not tolerate any hindrance to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Siddaramaiah said he would need to examine the issue before providing his insights.
“I am unsure of the context in which the Supreme Court made that statement. I will review it thoroughly before issuing any comments,” he noted.
Earlier, Siddaramaiah paid floral tributes to former Chief Minister Kengal Hanumanthaiah at his statue on the western side of Vidhana Soudha during his birth anniversary celebrations. He then addressed the media.
Meanwhile, indications of discord within the state Congress unit have continued to emerge. Previously, Shivakumar stated that both he and the Chief Minister were aligned in their discussions in front of the party leadership.
“We are adhering to what we discussed,” Shivakumar remarked, igniting further political speculation.
He also urged party members to refrain from public comments on leadership matters to protect the party's interests. This remark was perceived as a response to comments made by Congress MLC Yathindra, Siddaramaiah’s son, who claimed the Chief Minister would serve a full term and that attempts to replace him had been dismissed by the central leadership.
Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru before heading to Delhi, Shivakumar said, “Others may be confused; we are not. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and I are aware of our discussions.”
“Leaders are making statements and becoming anxious,” he stated, referring to recent comments by various party leaders.
He added, “The Chief Minister and I are aligned in what we discussed. There were no separate or secret discussions. Siddaramaiah, myself, and the party leadership spoke together, and we are proceeding based on that agreement.”
When questioned about reports suggesting that notices were being sent to leaders for discussing leadership issues, while such rules did not extend to the Chief Minister’s son, Shivakumar replied, “Let’s consult the high command.”
