Bhopal, Jan 14 (NationPress) Senior Congress leader and former Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister T.S. Singh Deo emphasized that people's faith in Lord Ram cannot be confined to the establishment of a single temple, as the devotion has been a longstanding tradition.

His comments came in response to RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat's assertion that the consecration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya should be commemorated as Pratishtha Dwadashi, a day signifying the 'true independence' of Bharat.

Bhagwat made these remarks while honoring Champat Rai, general secretary of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, with the 'National Devi Ahilya Award' for his significant contributions to the temple's construction during an event held in Indore on Monday.

In reaction to Bhagwat's perspective, T.S. Singh Deo, visiting Bhopal on Tuesday, stated that the freedom to worship Lord Ram has existed for generations, thus he disagrees with Bhagwat's point of view.

He reiterated that the faith in Ram has persisted for centuries and cannot be limited to a singular event or occasion.

Bhagwat also noted that although some individuals question the Ram Mandir movement, the consecration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya was a 'swa-Jagran' (self-awakening) for Hindus.

Addressing Bhagwat's opinions, the Congress leader remarked that religion and politics are distinctly separate realms.

“Religion is fundamental for character development, while politics serves to address the practical needs of the populace,” he stated.

While addressing attendees at Devi Ahilya College in Indore, Bhagwat asserted that the consecration ceremony, which occurred on January 22 last year under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, represents the restoration of the nation’s sovereignty after centuries of foreign domination and invasions.

He asserted that Bharat's 'true independence' was achieved on this day, highlighting that the nation has faced numerous adversarial incursions throughout its history. He maintained that the Ram Temple movement is not intended to oppose any group, but rather to awaken the 'self' of the nation, enabling Bharat to stand proud and lead globally.
