New Delhi, Nov 2 (NationPress) In light of the ongoing deadlock and intense discussions surrounding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, which has caused the Parliamentary sessions to be disrupted for two consecutive days, a consensus was reached between the government and the Opposition on Tuesday. This agreement is set to resolve the SIR deadlock and facilitate a vigorous discussion on the matter in the Lower House.
The Lok Sabha is scheduled to deliberate on two significant topics – the 150th anniversary of 'Vande Mataram' and electoral reforms on December 8 and December 9, respectively, allocating one day for each pressing issue.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju announced the debate schedule on X, which was finalized during an all-party meeting held on Tuesday.
“During the All-Party Meeting chaired by the Hon'ble Speaker of the Lok Sabha today, it was resolved that the Lok Sabha will discuss the 150th Anniversary of the National Song 'Vande Mataram' from 12 PM on Monday, December 8, followed by the discussion on Election Reforms from 12 PM on Tuesday, December 9,” he shared in a post on X.
It is notable that both the Opposition and the ruling party have been engaged in a war of words, with the former pushing for an urgent conversation on SIR, citing concerns over the marginalization of specific communities, while the latter insists on prioritizing a day for the national song – 'Vande Mataram'.
As per the agreement made during the All-Party meeting, the Lok Sabha will conduct a special session to commemorate the 150-year milestone of Vande Mataram on December 8, dedicating a comprehensive 10-hour period, which may be extended with the agreement of the members.
Since the commencement of the Winter Session, Parliament has faced persistent disruptions leading to multiple adjournments as the Opposition remains determined to address the controversial and hastily implemented voter verification initiative currently in progress across 12 states and union territories.
Earlier in the day, the Lok Sabha experienced significant commotion and shouting, while the Rajya Sabha saw the Opposition submit a notice under Rule 267 for a special discussion on voter revision. In response, Kiren Rijiju urged members to demonstrate some flexibility, suggesting they refrain from adhering strictly to timelines and assuring that a breakthrough could be achieved during the collaborative meeting of all parties later that day.
