Sonam Wangchuk Engages with Fasting Farmer Leader Dallewal

Chandigarh, Dec 29 (NationPress) Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk made a significant visit to the Khanauri border protest site, where he met farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who has been enduring a hunger strike for over a month in support of farmers' demands.

Dallewal's hunger strike has now reached its 33rd day, drawing attention to the ongoing fight for farmers' rights.

Wangchuk, accompanied by other leaders from two protest unions, offered his solidarity to Dallewal.

He expressed the warm wishes and support of the people of Ladakh.

Wangchuk observed that Dallewal was barely able to speak due to the extended duration of his fast.

The purpose of this meeting was to show support rather than engage in extensive discussions.

The protesting farmers are advocating for various demands, including a legal guarantee for a minimum support price (MSP).

Under the banners of Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, they have been stationed at the Shambhu and Khanauri border points between Punjab and Haryana since February 13. Their attempts to march to Delhi were obstructed by security forces.

Wangchuk called on the public to empathize with the farmers, stating, 'The food we eat is produced by farmers.'

This visit was a symbolic gesture of solidarity for those fighting for their rights.

The ongoing protests demonstrate the farmers' unwavering determination to achieve their goals despite numerous challenges.

A group of 101 farmers attempted to march on foot to Delhi three times between December 6 and 14.

However, each time, they were met with resistance from Haryana's security personnel. This persistence highlights the farmers' commitment to their quest for justice and fair treatment.

The protests have spotlighted the difficulties faced by farmers and their essential role in food production.

The current demonstrations underscore the urgent need to address farmers' concerns and safeguard their livelihoods.

The atmosphere at the Khanauri border remains tense as farmers continue their protest.

The involvement of notable figures like Wangchuk adds further visibility to their cause.

The farmers' movement aims to secure vital rights and protections for those who nourish the nation.

On October 5, Wangchuk commenced an indefinite hunger strike to highlight the demands of Ladakh for statehood and inclusion in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution. He and his supporters are calling for constitutional safeguards to empower the local population of Ladakh in protecting their land and cultural identity.
