Davanagere (Karnataka), Sep 4 (NationPress) Karnataka Police have called in BJP MLA B.P. Harish for questioning on Thursday following his derogatory comment insinuating that Davanagere district Superintendent of Police (SP) Uma Prashanth behaves like a pet dog for Congress leaders.
Insider reports indicate that MLA B.P. Harish was expected at the police station by 11 A.M. on Thursday. However, he failed to appear, prompting the police to prepare an additional notice instructing him to attend the investigation on either Friday or Saturday.
A contingent of over 10 police officers visited B.P. Harish's home near Visvesvaraya Park in Davanagere city, but since he was in Bengaluru, they informed his family that he is required to report for questioning.
Additionally, sources revealed that Harish is currently seeking anticipatory bail related to this case prior to facing the police.
Meanwhile, multiple women’s organizations have denounced Harish’s remarks and initiated calls for protests. His comments have also gained significant traction on social media.
The Karnataka police lodged an FIR against the Harihara BJP MLA Harish on Wednesday for claiming that SP Uma Prashanth was acting like a Pomeranian dog for Congress leaders in Davanagere district.
The FIR was filed at KTJ Nagar police station in Davanagere city following a complaint from SP Uma Prashanth. Authorities have charged the BJP MLA under Sections 132, 351(2), and 79 for insulting a female officer and making a life-threatening statement.
While speaking at a gathering organized by the Reporters’ Guild in Davanagere city, BJP MLA Harish remarked, “I am an MLA, yet when the SP sees me at functions, she displays an awkward demeanor. Conversely, she eagerly awaits members of the Shamanur family and behaves just like a Pomeranian dog of their household.”
Shamanur Shivashankarappa, a prominent Congress figure, serves as an MLA, while his son, S.S. Mallikarjun, holds the Ministerial position for Mines, Geology, and Horticulture. Mallikarjun’s wife, Prabha Mallikarjun, is the Lok Sabha representative for Davanagere.
BJP MLA Harish continued, “During an event in Harihara town, the SP disregarded me, averted her gaze, and occupied the platform without showing any respect. At Gandhi Bhavan grounds, in harsh sunlight, the SP stood by waiting for MP Prabha Mallikarjun.”
“At a convent in Harihara, children were made to wait for one-and-a-half hours for MP Prabha Mallikarjun. I ended up leaving the event. Had the SP been there, she would have stood in the sun for 1.5 hours. Why this disparity? I am an MLA and she is a Lok Sabha member. Both of us represent the people,” he stated.
“The SP may think that being under the patronage of the affluent and powerful is advantageous. However, this situation is fleeting,” added BJP MLA Harish.
This incident has sparked widespread condemnation of the MLA for his offensive remarks against a woman officer.
