Bengaluru, Oct 8 (NationPress) Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge vehemently condemned the incident where an advocate threw a shoe at the Chief Justice of India (CJI) during a session in the Supreme Court, stating, “We denounce the occurrence in the Supreme Court and the disrespect shown to the Chief Justice of India.”
Addressing journalists, he remarked: “If lawyers operating in the Supreme Court possess such a mindset and ideology, leading one to toss a shoe at the CJI, it is utterly reprehensible. Such individuals ought to be isolated by the legal community.”
He continued, “If this individual identifies as an advocate yet adheres to a philosophy that disregards basic human dignity and dehumanizes others while opposing the advancements women are making today, then the religion he references has historically shackled Indians for millennia.”
“The ‘Sanatan Dharma’ that the advocate mentioned has kept Indians subjugated for countless generations.”
“Even after 78 years of independence, if such beliefs endure, one can only speculate how individuals with such views, like this advocate, would govern the nation,” Kharge asserted. “I commend those advocates who decried the incident and advocated for the Constitution and fundamental rights. I also express gratitude to the organizations that have voiced their concerns along these lines.”
Kharge called for stringent measures: “Individuals who perpetrate such acts in the name of Manu Smriti or Sanatan Dharma must face consequences. Those who intentionally create social discord and disrupt harmony should be held accountable.”
He also denounced a mob-lynching incident reported from Raebareli.
“An incident emerged from Raebareli where a member of the Valmiki community, en route to his father-in-law’s residence, was wrongfully accused of theft, captured, and subsequently killed. Accusations of theft should lead to arrest and investigation; if proven guilty, the law must take its course. Taking justice into one’s own hands and resorting to lynching is intolerable,” he asserted.
“To defend certain ideologies, some individuals are committing crimes and inflicting injustice upon the underprivileged. For years, they have kept the impoverished in bondage while claiming to advocate for social justice. Such individuals must be legally punished. The government must empower the vulnerable; otherwise, the poor will remain oppressed,” Kharge emphasized.
