Jaipur, Nov 29 (NationPress) Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat together inaugurated the Swarnanagari Express on Saturday, which will link Jaisalmer to Delhi.
During the launch event, in response to requests from Minister Shekhawat and local residents, the Railways Minister declared that the newly introduced train service from Jaisalmer to Shakur Basti has been renamed to Swarnanagari Express.
He announced that the train will start its regular service on December 1.
The minister noted that the development work at the Jaisalmer railway station is nearing completion and should finish within a month.
"We are making efforts to have Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurate the upgraded station," he stated.
Vaishnaw also confirmed that the railway line connecting Jaisalmer and Jodhpur will undergo upgrades shortly.
Officials indicated that these initiatives will greatly enhance connectivity, promote tourism, and fortify strategic infrastructure in the border area.
Ashwini Vaishnaw emphasized that this connectivity will bolster national security.
Plans are also in motion to establish new railway connections in several regions along the Rajasthan-Pakistan border.
He explained that extending rail lines to these sensitive regions will substantially improve the country’s security framework.
New railway lines are being proposed for Anupgarh, Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Barmer, and Bhildi under this initiative.
The minister visited Jaisalmer on Saturday to launch the new train service to Delhi.
He also explored stalls under the One Station, One Product initiative and made purchases to support local artisans.
He mentioned that the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed border-area railway lines is in progress and will be finalized in the upcoming months.
"There will be a concerted effort to connect the entire border region," he assured.
He added that railway projects worth around Rs 55,000 crore are currently underway throughout Rajasthan, which includes the redevelopment of 85 railway stations.
Work is also progressing on various new railway corridors and infrastructure projects.
Officials stated that these new initiatives will enhance connectivity, stimulate tourism, and strengthen strategic infrastructure in the border region.
