Patna, May 3 (NationPress) Former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav intensified his election efforts by addressing a significant assembly of the Extremely Backward Community (EBC) at Miller High School Ground in Patna on Saturday.
In a move to connect with a vital voter segment ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, Yadav acknowledged his father Lalu Prasad Yadav for uplifting the EBCs in Bihar, emphasizing that they were historically deprived of fundamental rights.
“Prior to the 1990s, members of extremely backward communities were unable to wear slippers, fetch water from wells, ride horses during weddings, or don new attire. Lalu Prasad Yadav restored these rights. He empowered many individuals to become MLAs, MPs, and ministers,” stated Tejashwi, prompting enthusiastic applause from his audience.
He also criticized the ruling alliance, suggesting that the Bharat Ratna awarded to Karpoori Thakur, a respected socialist leader from the EBC community, was a politically motivated act.
“Those who once disrespected Karpoori Thakur were compelled to honor him due to our efforts,” he remarked, establishing the RJD as the genuine advocate for social justice.
Tejashwi Yadav assured enhanced political representation for the EBCs this time around, promising that the RJD would allocate more election tickets to candidates from this community than ever before.
“If you take one step towards us, we will reciprocate with four. If you take four, we will take sixteen. I am committed to politics until I’m 75, not just for a mere five years,” he declared.
He underlined that his objective was to implement long-lasting structural changes for the upliftment of marginalized communities, rather than seeking short-term political advantages.
Yadav further condemned the Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government, accusing it of fostering unemployment, forced migration, and targeting backward communities through administrative oppression.
“Post the liquor prohibition law, Dalits and backward castes are facing the most arrests. Atrocities against these communities have become prevalent. Witnessing the government's role in these acts is alarming,” he expressed.
He additionally charged the BJP with manipulating Nitish Kumar, stating: “He (Nitish Kumar) openly declares in public gatherings that he will not switch allegiances now. This is clear evidence of how the BJP has taken control of him.”
