Hyderabad, Sep 1 (NationPress) The Telangana government is striving to secure a Guinness World Record during the upcoming state festival Bathukamma, which kicks off on September 21.

On Monday, Tourism Minister Jupally Krishna Rao revealed plans for a record-breaking attempt that will see over 10,000 women participating in Bathukamma at LB Stadium in Hyderabad.

Recognized as a hallmark of Telangana culture, Bathukamma will be observed from September 21 to 30.

This festival celebrates nature, with women and girls dancing and singing around beautifully arranged flowers. At the conclusion of the festivities, these floral displays, known as Bathukamma, are immersed in local water bodies.

Krishna Rao emphasized that Bathukamma serves as Telangana's global identity, equating its significance to that of the Rio Carnival in Brazil. “Bathukamma is Telangana’s global identity just like Rio Carnival is Brazil’s Identity,” he stated.

He added that nine grand celebrations will take place over nine days throughout Telangana and Hyderabad, including the Tank Bund Carnival on September 27 and a best Bathukamma contest on September 29.

A floral parade and a floral Holi event will occur at Tank Bund on September 30, featuring special rides, rallies, art camps, and cultural activities.

Krishna Rao mentioned that the Telangana government is committed to promoting tourism on a global scale. “Our government is moving forward with a clear vision to elevate the state’s tourism sector to international standards,” he remarked.

The newly launched tourism policy aims to establish Telangana as one of India’s premier tourist destinations while highlighting the state’s rich culture, heritage, and natural beauty. The policy seeks to attract investments of ₹15,000 crores over five years, creating 300,000 new jobs.

According to the tourism minister, the tourism sector could boost the state's GDP by 10 percent, placing Telangana among the top five tourist destinations in India.

Joining him were Panchayat Raj Minister D. Seethakka, Endowments Minister Konda Surekha, and TGTDC Managing Director Kranthi Valluru.
