The victim, Vasanta Kumari, was bound to a tree by some villagers who sought vengeance for the supposed deceit committed by her husband, Prabhakar. He had reportedly taken money from villagers in Ramaragidda village under the pretext of a finance company named HBM Finance and subsequently disappeared.
In a fit of anger, the villagers tracked down Vasanta Kumari while she was on duty and restrained her to the tree. Following the intervention of local elders, she was released. Later, she filed a complaint with the police, prompting authorities to initiate an investigation.

They duped him through a WhatsApp message that included a malicious link purporting to be from the Road Transport Authority (RTA) challan. After clicking the link, funds were withdrawn from his account, prompting him to file a report with the police.
