Hyderabad, May 5 (NationPress) - Telangana's Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar has made an urgent plea on Monday to the employees of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) to refrain from going on strike, emphasizing that such actions would cause significant inconvenience to the public.
Union leaders representing TGSRTC employees met with the minister to discuss their grievances.
The minister assured that the government is prepared to address their concerns and urged employees to reconsider their planned strike set for May 6.
Ponnam Prabhakar highlighted that he and Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy are always willing to listen to their complaints. He affirmed that the government prioritizes the protection of the RTC, the welfare of employees, and amenities for passengers.
He emphasized the importance of not proceeding with the strike, noting that the RTC has only recently begun recovering from previous losses and that various issues are being resolved.
Furthermore, he pointed out that the previous BRS government had overlooked the RTC for a decade, failing to acquire any new buses or provide job opportunities. He accused the earlier K.C. Rao-led government of misusing the employees' Cooperative Credit Society (CCS) and Provident Fund (PF).
Ponnam Prabhakar mentioned that since the Congress government took office, it has allocated Rs 400 crore towards bonds for RTC employees, cleared Rs 1,039 crore in long-standing PF dues, and provided Rs 345 crore for CCS arrears.
Additionally, he reported that 1,500 appointments were made on compassionate grounds and 3,038 new jobs have been approved.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had also previously appealed to TGSRTC employees to avoid the strike.
He noted that TGSRTC has just begun to generate profits and reminded employees that it is their organization, and they bear the responsibility to safeguard it.
Last month, the Joint Action Committee of TGSRTC employees declared their intention to strike starting at midnight on May 6.
CM Revanth Reddy reassured employees that the profits generated by the organization will be managed by them, and he encouraged them to provide input on how to utilize the funds.
The Chief Minister also cautioned that the state's financial situation is precarious and urged employees to reconsider their strike decision and work collaboratively with the government.
