Hyderabad, Feb 26 (NationPress) The government of Telangana has mandated that Telugu be taught as a compulsory subject for students from 1st to 10th grades across all schools affiliated with CBSE, ICSE, IB, and other educational boards in the state, starting from the 2025-26 academic year.
This directive comes in accordance with the Telangana (Compulsory Teaching and Learning of Telugu in Schools) Act, which requires the teaching of Telugu in Zilla Parishad, mandal parishad, aided, and other affiliated institutions.
While the Act was put into effect on March 30, 2018, previous administrations did not fully enforce it. The newly elected government has pledged to ensure the implementation of Telugu language instruction.
Following discussions with the management of CBSE, ICSE, IB, and other educational boards, the government has confirmed that Telugu will be taught in the 9th and 10th grades across these boards beginning with the upcoming academic year.
It has been decreed that instruction in Telugu will be required for all classes from 1 to 10 in schools operating under CBSE, ICSE, IB, and other boards from the 2025-26 academic year.
The Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has chosen to utilize the straightforward Telugu textbook 'Vennela' for examinations, thereby simplifying the experience for students in grades 9 and 10 within CBSE and other boards.
This implementation of a simplified Telugu textbook will benefit students whose primary language is not Telugu, as well as those who come from other states.
A government order has been issued, substituting 'Singidi' (standard Telugu) with 'Vennela' (simple Telugu) under code 089 as outlined in the CBSE subject list for class 9 beginning in the 2025-26 academic year and for class 10 starting in the 2026-27 academic year.
The Director of School Education put forth a proposal that has been accepted by the government.
Yogita Rana, Secretary of School Education for the Government of Telangana, issued the orders on Tuesday, replacing 'Singidi' with 'Vennela'.
