New Delhi, June 2 (NationPress) Errol Musk, the father of Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, stated on Monday that he firmly believes a Tesla manufacturing facility will be established in India. He mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his son will collaborate to create a mutually beneficial agreement.
During an interview with IANS in the capital, Errol Musk, who is visiting India, remarked that Prime Minister Modi needs to consider India's interests in bringing Tesla to the nation.
"Elon must also prioritize Tesla's corporate interests. Together, they will devise a solution that benefits both Tesla and India. However, I express this as a private citizen since Tesla is a public entity," emphasized the 79-year-old South African entrepreneur.
Errol Musk expressed, "I am confident that a Tesla manufacturing facility will be set up in India."
"It is crucial for India to have a Tesla plant. India stands as one of the most significant regions globally," he told IANS.
Errol Musk's visit to India, where he serves as a Global Advisor to Servotech Renewable Power System Ltd, highlights the increasing interest in India's advancements in sustainable development and its goal to lead in green and electric technologies.
India has ambitious goals for electric vehicle (EV) adoption, aiming for 30% penetration in the passenger vehicle segment, 80% in the two-wheeler and three-wheeler segments, and 70% in commercial vehicles by 2030.
In April, Elon Musk and PM Modi discussed a range of topics, including the significant potential for collaboration in technology and innovation.
"It was a privilege to converse with PM Modi. I look forward to visiting India later this year," Musk shared on his X social media platform.
PM Modi also communicated with Tesla's CEO regarding various matters, stating, "I spoke to Elon Musk, covering numerous topics, including those discussed during our meeting in Washington DC earlier this year. We explored the vast potential for collaboration in technology and innovation. India is dedicated to enhancing our partnerships with the US in these areas," the Prime Minister noted on X.
Meanwhile, Union Heavy Industries Minister H D Kumaraswamy mentioned on Monday that companies like Mercedes Benz, Skoda-Volkswagen (VW), Hyundai, and Kia have expressed a strong interest in manufacturing their electric vehicles (EVs) in India.
Regarding Tesla, the Union Minister stated, "We do not expect manufacturing from them at this time, as they are only beginning to establish showrooms. Currently, they are not interested in manufacturing in India."
