Lucknow, June 23 (NationPress) The Samajwadi Party has stood by its choice to remove three sitting MLAs, asserting that their actions warranted such a decision as these legislators had betrayed the party and undermined their integrity.
The party's deputy whip in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, Dr. R.K. Verma, stated, “These MLAs were elected under the SP banner but turned their backs on the party and the democratic framework. During the Rajya Sabha elections, they sold their conscience. They disobeyed the party whip and cast their votes for the BJP. This was a clear affront to democratic values. While their expulsion may have been delayed, it was entirely warranted.”
He emphasized the seriousness of their actions: “This wasn’t merely political defection; it was an ideological betrayal. They acted against the interests of the PDA (Pichhda, Dalit, Alpsankhyak) coalition, which forms the foundation of the Samajwadi Party’s mission. Instead of bolstering the movement, they undermined it and openly supported the BJP's agenda.”
Specifically targeting Manoj Pandey, who previously served as the SP’s chief whip in the Assembly, Verma remarked, “During the Rajya Sabha elections, a clear whip was issued by the party. Nevertheless, Pandey, who was the chief whip, along with others, chose to defy it. Whether it was due to fear, financial incentives, or promises, the BJP found a way to corrupt these MLAs. Such disloyalty cannot be accepted in a party dedicated to democratic and socialist values.”
Earlier, the Samajwadi Party expelled three of its sitting MLAs -- Abhay Singh (Gosaiganj), Rakesh Pratap Singh (Gauriganj), and Manoj Kumar Pandey (Unchahar) -- for engaging in what it referred to as anti-party activities and deviations in ideology.
The announcement was made through an official statement on the party’s X handle.
The statement pointed out the legislators’ alleged alignment with “communal, divisive, and negative ideologies,” which contradict the party’s “socialist, harmonious, and progressive” principles.
