Varanasi, Dec 2 (NationPress) At merely 19 years old, Vedamurti Devavrat Mahesh Rekhe has achieved a remarkable feat that last occurred two centuries ago. Within the tranquil grounds of the Vallabhram Shaligram Sangved Vidyalaya in Varanasi, Devavrat successfully completed the Dandakarma Parayanam, an arduous recitation of 2,000 mantras from the Shukla Yajurveda Madhyandina branch, over a span of 50 continuous days.

The accomplishment, historically noted only once prior in Nashik 200 years ago, has been revived in the spiritual epicenter of India, garnering admiration not just from scholars and sages, but from the country's highest authority.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed heartfelt praise for the teenager’s dedication:

“What 19-year-old Vedamurti Devavrat Mahesh Rekhe has accomplished will resonate with future generations. Every individual who cherishes Indian culture takes pride in his flawless execution of the Dandakrama Parayanam. He epitomizes the essence of our Guru Parampara.

For both Devavrat and his father, Mahesh Rekhe, receiving accolades from the Prime Minister was a moment they will cherish forever, which they shared with IANS with palpable emotion.

“We have put in every effort,” he said softly, with hands clasped. “But this is merely the beginning. My goal is to spark interest in the Vedas, to keep learning, and to expand my knowledge. If younger generations are inspired, that will be my true success. May they perform even better than I have.” He paused and added humbly, “This is all by the grace of the Guru. I have achieved nothing on my own.”

His father, Mahesh, remarked, “I never anticipated this.” “To witness my son undertake such a monumental task with such purity… and to hear the Prime Minister speak of him with utmost respect — it is overwhelming. This is not only a source of pride for our family; it is a significant moment for every parent who values tradition, discipline, and education.”

Mahesh reminisced about the long hours, strict discipline, and emotional strain during the 50-day ritual. “There were instances when I was concerned for his health,” he admitted.

“Yet, whenever I felt anxious, the blessings of the Guru propelled him forward. And today, with the Prime Minister acknowledging Devavrat’s commitment, it feels as if our entire journey has been sanctified.”

PM Modi, who also serves as the MP from Kashi, expressed great joy that such a unique spiritual achievement unfolded in Varanasi: “As the MP from Kashi, I am thrilled that this extraordinary feat occurred in this holy city.
