Hyderabad, Nov 11 (IAS) The Hyderabad Police have initiated three legal cases against various individuals, including three MLAs from the ruling Congress Party, for breaching the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) during the recent by-election in Jubilee Hills Assembly.
Two of these cases were filed at the Madhuranagar Police Station against current MLAs Beerla Ilaiah, Rama Chandra Naik, and Ramdas Maloth.
A separate case was lodged at the Borabanda Police Station involving former MLAs Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar and Methuku Anand, both affiliated with the opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).
The Hyderabad Police stated that they are undertaking stringent legal actions against those who have disregarded the election code, stressing that compliance with the Model Code of Conduct is crucial for ensuring that elections are held in a peaceful and transparent manner, consistent with democratic ideals.
The police have urged citizens to promptly report any visible violations of election rules by calling 100.
Previously, District Election Officer R. V. Karnan indicated that cases had been filed against several non-local public representatives for infringing upon the MCC.
The BRS raised concerns to election officials, alleging that numerous legislators from the ruling party, who are not local, were spotted near polling stations.
BRS candidate Maganti Sunitha accused the ruling Congress of engaging in electoral misconduct, claiming Congress leaders were intimidating voters.
She remarked that Congress MLAs and MLCs have been present in the constituency since Monday, yet the Election Commission has taken no action to remove them.
The BRS legal team has submitted five complaints to the Chief Electoral Officers, targeting former deputy mayor Baba Fasihuddin, Congress MLAs, MLCs, and other leaders for violations of the MCC.
The opposition party asserted that Congress legislators were seen with voter slips and allegedly attempted to bribe voters with cash.
Additionally, it was claimed that Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka was seen moving around polling centers accompanied by a convoy of vehicles.
