Tiger Shroff was not original target, say Mumbai Police sources
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff was not the original intended target of the shooters who fired at his car in Mumbai, preliminary interrogation of the arrested accused has reportedly revealed. According to Mumbai Police sources, the accused had initially planned to attack another prominent Bollywood celebrity but shifted focus to Shroff after finding it difficult to reach their first target.
How the attackers zeroed in on Tiger Shroff
Investigators have reportedly found that the accused studied the actor's movements through Instagram reels uploaded by fans. The videos allegedly showed that the 36-year-old actor typically travels without police security, making him appear, in the attackers' assessment, a more accessible target. The accused are also said to have monitored Shroff's own Instagram account and fan posts to track his movements and routines ahead of the attack.
The Attack and Its Immediate Aftermath
The firing took place on a busy Sunday evening and was captured on video. Tiger Shroff, son of veteran actor Jackie Shroff, escaped relatively unhurt, but his driver and a bystander sustained injuries. According to Mumbai Police, five to six rounds were fired at the actor's car. A motorcycle allegedly used by the shooters was subsequently recovered in an abandoned state in Andheri.
Accused Arrested in Rajasthan's Kota
Following the attack, the accused reportedly fled to Surat, Gujarat, from where they boarded a Jaipur-bound train, with an alleged plan to travel onward to New Delhi by bus before crossing into Nepal. However, Mumbai Police arrested the three accused in Kota, Rajasthan. Two of the arrested individuals have been identified as Ritik, alias Roshan, from Begusarai, Bihar, and Rehan from Sonipat, Haryana.
Lawrence Bishnoi Gang Link and Alleged Motive
Police have registered a case under charges of attempted murder and relevant provisions of the Arms Act. Investigators are examining alleged links between the accused and members of organised criminal networks. According to police, Rehan was in contact with Anil Pandit, an alleged associate of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, which claimed responsibility for the attack in an unverified social media post.
A purported audio clip allegedly featuring Pandit, described as a 32-year-old US-based gangster from Panipat, has circulated widely on media platforms. In the recording, he allegedly claims that Tiger Shroff was targeted for ignoring warnings against working with Bollywood star Salman Khan. However, the authenticity of the audio clip has not been independently verified.
Investigation Continues
Police are continuing to interrogate the arrested accused to establish the motive, identify the original intended target, and ascertain the full scope of the conspiracy behind the attack. The case has raised sharp questions about celebrity security in Mumbai and the reach of organised criminal networks into Bollywood.
