Chennai, Sep 29 (NationPress) The BJP's Tamil Nadu faction has escalated its criticism of the DMK government concerning the tragic stampede at the Karur rally, which resulted in 41 fatalities. Party spokesperson A.N.S. Prasad has called for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry, alleging that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is exerting pressure on TVK chief Vijay following the incident.
Prasad criticized the one-man commission, headed by retired Madras High Court judge Aruna Jagadeesan, established by the state government, labeling it as “a mere eyewash” that fails to meet the public's demand for accountability.
“The six crore people of Tamil Nadu are eager to uncover the truth. An impartial CBI investigation is essential,” he asserted.
He emphasized the importance of transparency in the post-mortem of the victims, urging the government to adhere to all legal protocols, including oversight by senior forensic experts and comprehensive video documentation.
“The government must confirm whether these protocols were implemented to protect evidence,” Prasad insisted.
Additionally, he criticized the DMK's decision to replace the initial investigating officer, DSP Selvaraj, with ADSP Premanandan, viewing it as “a further indication of reluctance to take the case seriously.”
Instead, he recommended appointing an officer of Inspector General rank, supported by a DIG and several experienced DSPs, to investigate all aspects, including crowd management, security arrangements, and local administrative decisions.
Notably, Prasad highlighted the intersection of national politics, claiming that Rahul Gandhi, who reached out to Vijay with condolences, is indirectly advising him against opposing the DMK.
“Sources indicate that Rahul Gandhi has cautioned Vijay against adopting a stance opposed to the ruling government. These discussions should also be included in the investigation,” he stated.
The BJP has reiterated its solidarity with the victims' families and urged Vijay to “honor the memory of the 41 victims who supported him” by resisting political pressure and ensuring that the truth comes to light.
“The Tamil Nadu BJP will not allow this tragedy to be minimized or forgotten,” Prasad affirmed.
This demand arises amidst increasing political friction following the deadly stampede at Vijay's campaign event in Karur, where significant concerns about crowd management and safety protocols remain unresolved.
