Chennai, Sep 22 (NationPress) The Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has declared a series of statewide demonstrations across all 234 Assembly constituencies, focusing on what it describes as the “corrupt, lawless, and deceptive governance” of the DMK.
The protests are scheduled to commence on October 5 and persist until November 30, as announced by unit secretary Vinoth B. Selvam following the directives of state BJP president and legislative party leader Nainar Nagendran.
The BJP contends that the DMK government has faltered on numerous fronts over the last four years—from a decline in law and order and pervasive corruption to the alarming surge of narcotics trafficking and political violence.
“The DMK aspires to maintain power by disseminating false promises and showering voters with cash incentives. It is our democratic obligation to unveil these failures and shield the populace from one-family rule,” Selvam articulated in his statement.
The BJP has accused the DMK of failing students, teachers, workers, and the impoverished with unmet promises including the annulment of education loans, filling 3.5 lakh government posts, reinstating the old pension scheme, offering permanent positions to part-time teachers, and regularizing anganwadi and nutrition workers.
“Instead of fulfilling their commitments, this government resorts to mass arrests of protesting teachers and workers,” charged the statement.
The party also highlighted the DMK's unfulfilled promises regarding monthly electricity billing and LPG subsidies, while burdening citizens with steep increases in power tariffs, property taxes, milk prices, and essential goods.
“Even rainwater drainage projects costing thousands of crores in Chennai have failed to prevent floods,” the BJP remarked, citing this as another instance of mismanagement.
Emphasizing the deteriorating law and order situation, the party recalled the murders of political figures such as BSP’s Armstrong and BJP functionary Balachandran in Chennai, as well as the killings of social activists and government officials by criminal and mining syndicates. Additionally, they noted the rising threat of narcotics networks allegedly linked to DMK operatives.
“Deaths in custody, hooch tragedies, TASMAC scams, and blatant corruption in every department characterize this failed administration,” the statement continued.
Through the upcoming protests, the BJP aims to “unmask the so-called Dravidian Model, which is merely a model of failure,” and demand immediate attention to the grievances of the public in every constituency.
