Chennai, Oct 1 (NationPress) In a significant effort to bolster its counter-terrorism and security framework, the Tamil Nadu Police have initiated a targeted recruitment campaign aimed at enlisting seasoned ex-servicemen and ex-paramilitary personnel into its Bomb Detection and Disposal Squads (BDDS).
This initiative seeks to incorporate highly skilled professionals with established expertise in dealing with explosives and neutralizing threats, a competency that is becoming increasingly essential for public safety within the state.
As per an official announcement, the department is calling for applications on a one-year contractual basis to fill 59 positions across three crucial roles.
These roles comprise two openings for Inspector (BDDS), to be filled by retired Subedars and Subedar-Majors, 14 Sub-Inspector (BDDS) positions for ex-Naib Subedars, and 43 Head Constable (BDDS) roles for ex-Havildars and Naiks. The salary ranges from Rs 20,600 to Rs 65,500 for Head Constables and Rs 37,700 to Rs 1,19,500 for Inspectors.
Candidates must satisfy stringent eligibility criteria. Applicants should be under 50 years old as of July 1, 2025, and have a minimum of 10 years of service in the Army or any paramilitary organization. A Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) or equivalent qualification is mandatory, along with a minimum six-week certification in Bomb Detection and Disposal (BDD) from esteemed institutions such as the Centre for Military Engineering (CME), Pune, the National Security Guard (NSG), or the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS). Practical experience is essential.
Preference will be given to those who have served in elite bomb disposal units like the 261 or 262 Counter Explosive Devices (CED) Units of the Indian Army, NSG’s BD units, the National Bomb Data Centre, or at airports.
Furthermore, candidates must be medically fit with ‘SHAPE-1’ category health standards and must be able to train personnel in both Tamil and English.
Eligible candidates must submit their applications by post to the Additional Director General of Police, Operations, Marutham, No.17, Boat Club Road, Raja Annamalaipuram, Chennai - 600028, by October 31.
The application package should include bio-data, educational certificates, relevant discharge book pages, pension orders, and proof of BDD training and experience.
