When Will Train Services Fully Resume in NE After Disruption?

Guwahati, June 30 (NationPress) After a week-long disruption caused by landslides, regular train services between South Assam, Tripura, Manipur, Mizoram, and the rest of India via Guwahati have fully resumed as of Monday, according to officials.

The critical train services in the Lumding-Badarpur Hill Section of the Lumding division were interrupted since June 23 due to landslides that severely impacted the railway tracks in the mountainous areas of Assam's Dima Hasao district.

A senior official from the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) reported that both goods and passenger trains are now operating normally in the landslide-affected area at Jatinga Lampur following the restoration of the damaged railway tracks.

Train movements over the affected segment from Lumpur to New Haflong were partially restored starting Sunday.

"Our engineers and officials will closely monitor the conditions in the affected regions. Given the ongoing monsoon season, they will keep a vigilant check throughout the mountainous areas of the Lumding division," stated the NFR official in a conversation with IANS.

NFR's Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO), Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, noted on Saturday that the Lumpur-New Haflong section was severely impacted by multiple earth slips due to continuous heavy rainfall, leading to significant disruptions for both passenger and freight train services.

To assess the situation and oversee restoration efforts, NFR General Manager Chetan Kumar Shrivastava personally visited the site, evaluated the restoration activities, and motivated the field teams.

Under his leadership, maximum manpower and machinery were utilized, and NFR teams worked tirelessly, day and night, to clear debris and restore the tracks, the CPRO added.

The dedicated efforts of the engineers and workers have ensured a safe and smooth resumption of train services on this essential hill section.

Due to the track conditions, the NFR has had to cancel, divert, and short-terminate several trains that were scheduled to operate in these affected areas.

The NFR expresses gratitude for the patience and understanding of passengers and the general public during this disruption.

During the monsoon period (June to September), various northeastern states, particularly Tripura, Mizoram, Manipur, and southern Assam, often experience isolation from the rest of the country for weeks due to landslides, waterlogging, and damage to railway tracks, causing hardship for local communities.
