During a session held by the Animal Resources Development Department, Saha stated that it is vital to educate students, teachers, and the general populace in both public and private sectors about rabies, animal behavior, and essential safety protocols.
He stressed the necessity of public education on the behavior of stray dogs and other animals, alongside the promotion of preventive measures and first-aid practices to reduce the incidence of accidents and disease transmission.
The Chief Minister noted, “The state government is taking steps to rescue stray animals and provide appropriate shelters. Various initiatives are in place to safeguard these animals and reduce accidents involving them.”
Saha pointed out that vaccinating domestic animals is a key strategy for preventing the spread of animal-related diseases.
During the session, the Chief Minister assessed the progress on constructing shelters for stray animals across 20 Nagar Panchayat areas.
This assessment included the establishment of Animal Birth Control Centres within the Agartala Municipal Corporation and Dharmanagar Municipal Council, along with proposed centers in six additional districts.
He directed officials to ensure robust public awareness campaigns are executed prior to the initiation of any stray animal management programs.
The Chief Minister also requested detailed information regarding the total stray animal population in the state, the functionality of Animal Birth Control Centres, and advancements in stray animal management, which includes training programs for personnel involved in handling stray dogs and other animals.
Senior officials attending the meeting included Deepa D. Nair, Secretary of Animal Resources Development Department, Milind Ramteke, Urban Development Secretary, Shankari Das, Law Secretary, Saju Wahid A., Commissioner of Agartala Municipal Corporation, Neeraj Kumar Chanchal, ARD Director, and Uttam Kumar Chakma, Secretary of Transport Department.
