Agartala, Jan 21 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Saha, announced on Tuesday that the state ranks second among the northeastern states in terms of GSDP. He asserted that the contribution from the northeastern region will significantly enhance the nation’s GDP in the near future.
Speaking at the 53rd Statehood Day celebration, the Chief Minister highlighted that a new era of comprehensive development has begun in Tripura.
He credited the unwavering support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for Tripura's developmental journey.
“Whenever we reached out to the Central government in times of need, they responded promptly. For instance, during last year’s floods, the Centre dispatched additional NDRF teams, helicopters, and various resources to support us,” he stated.
Saha acknowledged that Tripura suffered considerable losses across sectors during the floods, but with assistance from the Central government, the state managed to navigate through the crisis.
“In our state, a segment of the population attempts to stir up trouble, but we tackle these issues swiftly to maintain peace. Peace is essential for fostering development and attracting tourists. The number of tourist attractions has also increased,” he mentioned.
While emphasizing the state's significant milestones in diverse sectors, he noted that Tripura has transitioned from being a performer state to a front-runner in achieving Sustainable Development Goals for the year 2023-24.
He also highlighted a budget allocation of Rs 28,000 crores for the state, with its own revenue amounting to Rs 3,700 crores.
“After disbursing the budget across various sectors, including salaries, we have a surplus of approximately Rs 10,000 crores, which includes 25 percent allocation for the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council and 10 percent for Urban Local Bodies,” he added.
Additionally, he remarked that PM Modi has introduced the ‘HIRA’ model for Tripura, which includes highways, enhanced flight services, and the first internet connectivity in the state.
“Currently, many investors from outside the state are showing interest in Tripura. We have initiated the Tripura Startup Policy and the UNNATI Schemes. The state government has also introduced the CM Jan Arogya Yojana and is striving for good governance. PM Modi has always focused on women’s empowerment, recognizing that women comprise about 50 percent of the population. Consequently, the number of Self Help Groups has surged to 56,000, ” he concluded.
