Agartala, March 26 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Saha, announced on Wednesday that the state government has undertaken several key initiatives to ensure quality education for students, having hired 4,656 teachers over the past five financial years.
Responding to inquiries from MLAs during the Tripura Assembly session, the Chief Minister revealed that the 'Nipun Mission' was launched in the state on November 18, 2022, aimed at improving educational standards.
The National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading with Understanding and Numeracy (NIPUN) is a program initiated by the Union Ministry of Education to guarantee that all children in India acquire foundational literacy and numeracy skills by the end of Grade 3.
Saha, who also oversees the Education portfolio, stated that as part of the government’s efforts to enhance educational quality, 10,182 primary teachers have been trained as ‘Foundational Literacy and Numeracy’ instructors under the ‘Nipun Tripura Mission’.
“Consequently, activity-based teaching has commenced in schools,” he asserted.
He added that 200 Block Resource Persons and Cluster Resource Persons have been trained as master trainers to prepare all primary teachers in the state for the effective implementation of the Nipun Tripura initiative.
“A specific teaching-learning material-rich environment known as the 'Nipun Corner' has been established in classrooms throughout all schools as part of the Nipun Mission,” he further claimed.
The Chief Minister also informed the assembly that under the PM Poshan scheme, cooked meals are provided daily to all students attending government and government-aided schools and madrasas from Class I to Class VIII.
Additionally, he mentioned that beyond mid-day meals, breakfast is being offered on an experimental basis to 47,792 students from pre-primary to Class VIII in all government and government-aided schools and madrasas located in the Dhalai district, which is classified as an aspirational district.
“To motivate teachers to create and implement cost-effective teaching and learning aids independently, a state-level exhibition and competition for teaching and learning aids was organized for the second time. This exhibition showcased teaching and learning aids selected from over 160 district-level competitions, with participation from approximately 7,000 teachers,” he stated.
He noted that to ensure students enrolling in Class I reach the appropriate level, a nine-week bridge course called the 'Vidya Setu Module' was introduced, based on NCERT guidelines.
The Chief Minister emphasized that conferences between teachers and parents were held twice simultaneously across the state to inform parents about the state government’s mission and objectives.
“Classrooms at the pre-primary level have been enhanced through various decorations under the 'BALA' (Building as Learning Aid) project, resulting in an increase in enrollment from 3,352 to 12,253 students since 2020-21,” he explained.
He added that activity-based teaching methodologies have also been implemented to improve education at the pre-primary level, contributing to greater student attendance.
He acknowledged that the quality of education continues to improve through teacher recruitment by the Teachers' Recruitment Board, Tripura, via the TET examination.
